I began the art of photography at 13 years of age. It has been a robust 60
year journey.
My coming of age sequences are the photography of growth and
exploration. Leaving the segregation of Arkansas in the mid-1960s is an
individual and artistic marker. Like so many Black Families, mine migrated
North for better lives and hopefully finding jobs in industries.
This migration, this transition for me, as a young Black Man, was
traumatizing, exciting and defining. It fueled the fire inside of me to
understand my world through images. As I tried to understand my universe
everything became a picture.
Each image was held dear as I quested to understand the physical and
sensory challenges and opportunities. My desire is to capture the truths of
the human condition and to show the ephemeral glory in the simplest of
things.
I respect all images as they exist in their purest forms. With each image, I
connect to an authentic earthly experience. Black and White photography is
my choice of expression. It shares my passion for capturing moments of
life.
Photography is etched deeply within my soul.
